Draper And Mucharsky Stun At Colorado State Championships

Call it a three-peat, because Nadhia Campos dominated the field  in the 2A Colorado State Championships once again.

The Vanguard junior sliced 18-seconds off her 2022 state-winning time, running 18:19 - that was a 1:03 victory over the field.

Add that it was a 2A meet record.

The race for second was a hint at what how the team race would unfold.

Heritage Christian Academy's Mikaela Kendall ran away with a runner-up finish, clocking 19:21, while Banning Lewis Prep's Alexia Gonzales finished third in 19:44.

While the team race was bound to be tight, this one did come down to the fourth-runner.

Banning Lewis had the best 1-2-3 punch of any squad, but Heritage Christian's depth prevailed in a big way Saturday morning.

Ainsley StantonLilly Lukens, and Emma Lukens went 11-14-15 to stop the tally at 37-points.

Lake County came within 10-points of defending their 2022 state title, tallying 47, while Banning Lewis was third with 69.

In the boy's race pre-race favorite Andrew Bel soloed his way around the Penrose course, claiming his first state cross country title, running 16:16.

The surprise of the race came just seven-seconds later, where Lyons senior Sage Wynja kicked hard to claim the runner-up spot in 16:23.

Golden View's Bobby Kiesewetter took third in 16:24, sending the team tally into play.

While the team race looked to be tight - given the fact that Golden View and Banning Lewis had raced to tight finishes mulitple times over the season, Golden View extinguished that notion Saturday morning.

Golden View ran away with the 2A state title, tallying an impressive 42-points for a 43-point victory. Banning Lewis took second with 85, which was just ahead of Wiggins' 88.
